HELP! Deleted ALL music by mistake

I had 2 copies of each file on my HD. One was from before I started using itunes, so my own music folder divided into genres. The other one was the one that itunes created, so basically it took everything and duplicated it. Just yesterday I finally got ready to say goodbye to the original files; i had kept them because that's the way i had organized my music file for years and years, and even though itunes had copied everything and created its own folder with its own structure, i just didn't want to delete the originals. Anyways, so I did, but i forgot that the itunes folder was also in my mac's music folder. So I DELETED EVERYTHING.

Oh please tell me there's a way to recover the files, pleeeeeeeeeeease.

did you empty the trash?

if so did you choose "secure empty trash" ?

Check your trash otherwise.... ermmmm... there's a whole bunch of file recovery programs out there but they're usually pretty expensive... learn to back up!

well, stop using your mac right NOW. Since you didn't secure empty, the files are still there, just hidden. OS X will keep the files there until the disk space that they are taking up is needed for new material.

The (not so) funny thing is, I just purchased a new seagate external HD last month, but I left it in Toronto by mistake. A friend of mine is going to Toronto tomorrow and was supposed to bring it back with her by Monday morning. I had planned to backup everything on my file

That aside, I just did a search and found a whole bunch of .aif music files. The names were coded or something. I added all of them to my itunes, and it's actually quiet a lot. I'm not sure if these are my music files, but the number just keeps rising. Right now it's copying 4000 and something out of 6000 and something files, and the 6000 just keeps increasing.
