i erased my ENTIRE hard drive on my macbook air by accident.

What i did was...

I clicked something and it like delleted my entire hard drive. now when i turn on my air.. and my drive isnt plugged in...

it flashes a question mark. and wont load an os!!

I HAVE NO OPERATING SYSTEM!!

and when my disc drive is plugged in...

It goes to a screen where i can load up my Mac os x install disc. OR the network utility.. there used to be something called the "Macintosh HD"
now its gone.. and I CANNOT INSTALL THE DISC!

it says this software cannot be installed on this computer.. its leopard.

so i cant do anything with my macbook air. please help me get an os working.

Really specific:

As you don't know how you deleted your Mac OS X and even your HDD, I won't go into that.

Have you booted from the Restore DVD already?
Have you opened Disk Utility from the Restore DVD to see what is wrong with the internal HDD?

Can you report back with more descriptive and specific details?

This has more the clear symptoms of a hard drive failure... software, not hardware.
You need to replace your HD..

The worst thing you could do would be an 'rm- rf' which would just delete your home folder. I don't think it's possible to delete OSX whilst booted in it.

Most probably your hard drive failed.

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I DID!!!

I went into the GREY install disc and someone told me i had to clearly click ERASE and i did and now my computer is screwed.

so ya.. i went into disk utility from the install disc and did it??

Now you reinstall the OS X from the install disk. You don't need new one because you are already using it for Disk Utility so just exit Disk Utility and click install

actually, if you ran this as the root user from the root of the file system (/), then it would start erasing directories and files in alphabetical order. When it got to the /dev directory and erased the hard drive device pointer, everything would stop.
