HELP Downgraded 1.1.2 Fr iPhone to 1.1.1 won't activate.

I just bought my French iPhone and wanted to install apps.
First I had to downgrade to Firmware 1.1.1 and after rebooting, I can't get further than the "SIM Locked" message.
It was working fine before that.
Is there anyway of 'unbricking' it or is it a useless piece of metal/glass ? :confused:

EDIT : Found out how, delete iTunes 7.5, install old version of iTunes (7.4.2), re-install firmware 1.1.2, delete iTunes 7.4.x, re-install iTunes 7.5, re-activate iPhone. Phew...
lock please.
