I need to connect my emac to the internet.

I bought the new airport extreme base station and airport express. Without really doing any research.

Do I need the Airport card? My mac was built after in 04 and runs tiger.

Can I just connect my mac to the airport express or do I need the card.

I believe the Airport card was always optional on eMacs. System Profiler will tell you if you have one or not.

Most likely you dont have a card installed, if its an extreme its easy to install. You just need a screwdriver. The airport card goes where your CD drive door opens, you will see two small screw on either side of the door and you can remove a small piece of black plastic that will reveal the antenna and slot for your airport card.

can I bypass the airport card and connect to the airport express?

You need a wireless card to connect to either the Extreme or the Express.

You'd need either:

Airport Express Card and Airport Extreme

or

Airport Express Card and Airport Express
