Help! Everything is stretched out!

Today I connected my macbook to a projector using the VGA display adaptor, and it completely screwed up my display.

Everything is big - as if it's been zoomed in and stretched out, and I can't figure out how to fix it.

I've restarted multiple time, changed the background, looked through the display option on the system preferences, etc.

What am I missing.

I know you said you looked at System Preferences> Displays

...but are you sure you selected the native resolution? It should be the last one, 1280 x 800.
