My brother has an iPhone 4 which he upgraded from iOS 4 to iOS 5.1.1, but he had a problem during the upgrade, during which the upgrade failed. He has experienced loss of signal reception and poorer battery life.

Would it be wise to try to reinstall iOS 5.1.1? If so, what is the best way to do this? DFU mode? I have the ipsw file for 5.1.1, but am uncertain how to load it/use it to restore his iPhone using iTunes.

Any help is appreciated.

Other complicating factor: he is on Windows 7. I really don't want to lose his information, so I will back up with 3rd party iPhone to Mac software on my end.
