Help! Final Cut Pro sound

Hi
I posted this in a different thread too but wasn't sure if i would get seen (sorry).
I have Final Cut Pro HD and I'm doing my christmas work for my media moving image course at college.
I have captured one of my footage tapes, but when i play the clips i captured back (without the logging and capturing window open) the sound doesnt work but the levels at the right hand side show that there is sound on the clip. But when the logging window is open the sound works.
Does anyone know how to get the sound to work even with the logging window closed?

Just to check... have you rendered the sound on the timeline? Sorry to ask if you have already done that. I usually find that is always the answer to problems in Final Cut.

I never thought of that. how do you render just the sound? I'm a bit rusty at the moment, we havn't had a video project for a long time.
