It is a very somber photo snapped of a girl taken hostage after a bank robbery (i think). She is sitting in the back of a car with a criminal who has a revolver pointed at her. Her face is as hopeless as expression could show. A few minutes after the photograph, the situation goes south and she is shot and killed, beautiful woman, just thinking of it makes me numbinside. I don't think the photograph was taken in the U.S.A., maybe russia?
It's a very moving photograph and I've been trying to find it for years. It is in my copy of an old LIFE magazine with some great photos in it including picasso's light drawings, the man in the lighthouse w/ the big wave, execution of the vit cong captain, etc. The cover of this particular magazine had the V-J Day kiss (but not the original one printed in '45)
