I'm using 10.5 on my 2GHz Black Macbook and everything was sweet until my OWC MercuryElite AL Pro 500GB firewire drive stopped mounting. Disk Utility sees it but when i try to run repairs on it all i get is "Invalid B-tree node size
Volume check failed.
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed."
Please help if you can!

you must have ejected it wrong the last time you removed it, if you can eject it from disk utilities you should be fine

ejecting it using DU doesn't help the slightest. just get the exact same result

Try accessing your harddrive with DiskWarier http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html May be it will be able to repair it. In any case it will allow you to access your files and back them up. You might have to format your hard drive although there might be other options that I am not aware of. PS Disk Utility is not very good at disk repairing all that well.
