I recently bought a second hand Macbook pro (early 2008 model) with Yosemite OS. I got it working great and was happy with it, but yesterday it refused to load properly. The Apple startup screen loads almost half way and then freezes on that white screen with the Apple. I can hear the start up sounds and I can tell by the sound that it has successfully loaded to the main desktop but the screen itself is still frozen on the original apple loading screen.

Is it a hardware failure with Nvidia which is preventing me from seeing the desktop? I tried all of the shortcut keys on youtube to get passed the load screen but none of them work. Is it because I'm using an early 2008 model? I have the OS installation disc and when I boot with it the screen still freezes on that load screen while the machine itself is carrying on as normal but is still stuck on that load screen. At first I thought it was the screen, but after some research I think it might be the graphics system. Any advice on what to do?
