hello! i accidentally restored my iphone...
so after many hours i somehow managed to downgrade it to 4.0.1...but i do not have the original simcard...
been told to download ios 4.0.1 actived custom ipsw...but it wont install on my iphone 3gs...can anyone help me?

You can probably grab a friend or family member's SIM [that's with ATT] and activate that way. Otherwise check here.

If it doesn't give you the option to 'restore from backup' then beats me dude.

Has it EVER been activated?

all i know is that it previously worked no problem until it was restored...
shsh are saved for 4.0.1...i just can't figure out how to activate it without the original sim

Just wondering how someone could "accidentally" restore their phone.
Takes several steps and button pushes.
Hummm.

It doesn't matter what previously work. Sitting here trying to help you but it's kind of hard when you don't answer questions and you don't even know anything about the phone. You either need a SIM to activate it or you need to hacktivate it. Until we can get more information out of you then we can't really help...
