Help for MY Friend

Yesterday, my friend iphone became a brick after he put his iphone on ones of those ipode speaker docks. He was not able to reboot it, even when he hooks it back up to computer, no response at all. So he called apple yesterday, and they said to send it in to them. He installed installer, with some 3rd party apps on his phone. Not being able to restore the phone, will his warranty be voided if they found out is phone has 3rd party apps installed? Friend is freaking out, any help wold be appreciated. Thanks
