Help Getting Directions

I have to make a map with about 50 different locations and show the most efficient route to get from point A to point B to point C to.... all the way to the end. I tried google maps online, I could only put in about half the points and it would not even load the directions. I put all the points in Google Earth and cannot find a way to link the locations. Is there any way to achieve the most efficient route to get to all my locations either in Google Earth/maps or by a freeware application?
