I don’t know a ton of details, only that my son’s girlfriend spilled some wine on her laptop keyboard, and for some reason, her charging port never worked after that. She says nothing got in the port. Apple told her there’s no way to change/repair the charging port, but she has stuff she really needs to save from the hard drive.

Can anyone tell me what her options might be?

She may have all her files backed up to the cloud, if so if she gets another Mac, she can log in under her Apple ID and should be able to recover her files that way.

What Jim Mason said, plus same would apply if her data was on Dropbox or other cloud.

So the machine has no charge and cannot be powered up? If so that rules out Target Disk Mode. (If wine was spilled on the keyboard there is a good chance there is more wrong than the charging port).

Is this a post 2015 12" MacBook with a single USB-C port? or an older one with a dedicated charging port. If older it might be possible to simply remove the drive and connect to another computer.

One could seek the advice of professional data recovery companies, but I have no experience with those myself.

Or just apply the backup that surely exists to the new computer.

The most important question is which MacBook model we're talking about here. Is it a pre-2015 or a 2015-2017 MacBook?
