Hi, I have been using Guitar Pro on PC for long time and I was wondering since there isn't any search result of MR on Guitar Pro. I own an Alum Macbook now and if something is better in OSX I would love to switch.

So it comes down to Guitar Pro 5 vs Garageband 09.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks
-Chris-

Does anybody have an opinion on this? Since I am just doing guitar I was wondering which would be better?

A seriously good question that I do not have the answer to, but I would be delighted to see someone's opinion. You should also post this in some guitar forums.

Garageband and Guitar Pro are two very different types of music creation software programs.

For example: Garageband can function as a DAW, meaning you can plug in a microphone and record an acoustic guitar track or plug in an electric guitar and record a track. However, you can't record a real guitar track in Guitar Pro -- you "record" guitar parts via a MIDI keyboard or by clicking on a virtual fretboard -- it's "Realistic Sound Engine" uses recorded samples for playback (or MIDI).

Anyone can download a demo version of Guitar Pro (for either Windows or Mac OS X). The best way to compare it to Garageband and to learn what it can (and can't) do would be to try the demo and see for yourself.

My bandmates write music with GP5, then we record it with Garageband. I have used GP5 too, as you say you mostly play guitar, you will find using GP5 to write music is much easier than with garageband using software instruments.
