My system is organised as follows:
- 1 boot drive
- 1 data partition on a RAID 0 stripe (2 drives)
- 1 Time Machine drive, configured to only backup the data partition

One of the disks in my RAID0 stripe died.

I thought I could build a new RAID 0 stripe from new disks and restore its content from the Time Machine drive, but when booting from the OS DVD, it looks like the restore option only works for Time Machine backups containing full systems, not just data

I have also an external disk with a recent but not perfectly up-to-date clone of my data partition. I could start from that but how to rerieve the missing pieces from the Time Machine drive? Is there an automatic way of doing that? I fear that as I changed the source drive (the data RAID0 drives), TM won't recognise the backup anymore...

More generally, is TM only good at backing up full systems? Does it even work to restore individual partitions in a multi-drive system?
