I can trade in, but all indications are I can get more on the open market, so I'm considering going that way. My iPhone 5 is de-activated with Verizon. What do I do about the Verizon sim card, leave it inside? Does the buyer HAVE to stick with Verizon? The contract is up, Oct 15. Paying to unlock the phone would probably negate any extra dollars I'd get for it, I presume? TIA.

how much are you getting for the trade in ? att is offering me 200 for my 16 gb 5.. that price is locked in until oct 21st. i've checked craigslist and the prices are around the same thing give or take $25

No, Verizon LTE capable phones come unlocked even the 1st day you buy them because of an agreement Verizon made with the FCC requiring it.
Usually the real bids start coming in the last few minutes, plus the seller will probably have his own friends that will continually bid on the phone to up the price for others.
And then the buyer backs out or tries to scam you by filing a complaint, then you have to file an appeal to not lose your fees, then you relist and start all over again a week later after having wasted countless hours of your time.

I got $350 in a private sale for my unlocked 5 (64GB, black, one small ding on the back corner). That was last Monday. That was on the higher side, but not crazy.
