Help: how to unlock an unregistred and unactivated iphone

I recenty bought a locked iphone and want to unlock it before i start using it.

now the issue is that the person that sold me the iphone restored it just before he sold it to me. so in order to use it at all, i have to register the iphone thru itunes & att, which i do have an account with but do not wish to renew my contract.

does anyone know of any tools or services that can unlock a recently restored, not fully activated iphone?
