This really shouldnt be rocket science, but currently it is.

New to this mac stuff so apologies that this is a mickey mouse question.

When in ebay and I want to sell something, I go to add pictures, choose files, and then within pictures go to iphoto library - however when i then click on iphoto library i get the application picture rather than the photos!?

Que?

I'm not sure if Safari and eBay are back to getting along (for a while, one could only successfully post auctions with Firefox or some browser other than Safari).

But for the photo thing, I think you're using the wrong file... Try this.

#1 ... Keep iPhoto open, and find the photo you want. In the eBay sales thing, navigate till you get to the place where you insert the photo. Open up the choose file dialog and then drag the photo from inside iPhoto into the choose file dialog window. The dialog should change focus to wherever on your HD the image is.

#2 ... if #1 does not work for you, in iPhoto, drag the image in question to your desktop. Then on eBay, from the choose file dialog, go to the desktop and pick it there. When done, delete it from the desktop.

There's a way round it, but what I generally do is go to iphoto first, drag the required pic onto the desktop, then got to ebay and select the pic on the desktop.

You can navigate to all the pics in your library, but there're all in a big ol' list and so a particular pic is difficult to find that way.

thanks - so out of interest how do you navigate to all the photos?

I believe that in the latest version of iphoto, you control click (or right click) on the iphoto icon and do 'show package contents'. This is a new thing, and I'm not sure it's actually a good thing. In previous versions, the iphoto icon was just a folder you could get into as usual.

The easiest way to explain that is to note that if you right click a thumbnail in iPhoto, and choose Show File, you can see for yourself. :) If you option click the folder name at the top of the window, you can see the full path....

EDIT: Or does this not work in iPhoto 08? The screenshot is iPhoto 06....

Apple has changed the structure in the newest version to keep people from mucking about in the finder and corrupting their photos. We are not meant to be in there. Havoc can and will ensue if users mess with their photos in the finder. Stay out! Do all your work to/with photos from within the app itself. Drag to the desktop, export to the desktop (my favorite as I can choose the size), etc. Organize your files in the app itself (folders, albums, smart albums, etc.). There is never a need to go into the finder to do anything iPhoto related.
