and when i put in the disc and it asked me where i wanted to install the items too the new hard drive didn't show up. It gave me no options. Does anyone know what this means? I'm almost positive everything is connectd properly. does it just take a while or somethin?

Go back into the installation, but click on Utilities in the top menu bar and open up Disk Utility.

You need to Format/Partition the drive for GUID partition table, and Mac OS X (Journaled). After that has completed, the installer will allow you to install.
