i am going to art school in the fall. and i would really like to make my own eye catching webpage, containing my portfolio and my contact info and maybe start selling product on it later. But i dont know the first thing about webpage design anymore. i did when i was younger, i was a regular computer wiz kid. but lost touch of the times. anyhew what is the process in making a webpage?
programs? hosting? i will be purchasing either a powermac dualy or a powerbook depending on what is updated. my dad said it costs and arm and a leg, but im willing to pay a little and just start selling product. please jelp explain the
process please? sorry about the bad spelling

"Help explain the process" -- talk about an understatement.

Best bet is to sign up for a web design course through school or a community centre to get you back in the know.

It doesn't matter what computer you have, as long as you have an internet connection. The speed of your computer is immaterial. There are many programs that you can use; the classics are Dreamweaver for web pages and Photoshop for graphics but there are many others.

Web pages are nothing more than text files (HTML) and graphic files (gif, jpg) that are on a web server and available at an address for the public to view. Typically you will not host your own website, but will have it on a machine at a service provider. Usually, your dialup or broadband internet service provider supplies some Web server space free with your account. Or you can rent space for $5 to $20 a month from any number of hosting companies. If you want to do some selling on your site, investigate what features the web hosting company offers for taking orders - some offer simple eShops with the package. If you are going to sell on your website, you need to seriously plan this out -- what are you selling, to whom, how will you communicate what you have, how will you take payment, ship, etc.

Get some education on web page design. And perhaps hire a web page designer to work on it with you.
