iPod touch HELP I screwed up my iPod

So, I read on the internet to press and hold the power and home buttons on my iPod touch 2g running ios4 and then let go of the power button but keep holding the power button. Then let go. Now my iPod won't turn on and iTunes tells me to restore it. But I just downloaded an app. Is there a way to save my 99 cents?

You can always download an application again for free. But not music.
