Attempts to connect my Sony DCR-HC 96 to my Macbook Pro (loaded with with OS X 10.4.5 and iMovie 6.0.2) using the base station provided & firewire IE1394 (4 pin connector) have failed. Earlier I was using an older Sony Handycam and had no problems connecting the video camera and transferring the footage to my iMac 5 using the same cable. The message I now get (with both the MacBook and the iMac G 5) is that there is no camera connected. I have followed all the steps listed in the Handycam Operating Guide -setting "Display Output" to "LCD Panel", keeping the handycam on play/edit mode, putting "A/V" to "DV Out-On". I have also checked all connections, disconnecting and reconnecting them, using another firewire cable, switching the camera off and on, rebooting etc. - all the things suggested but to no avail. However, after physically connecting, the LCD panel does not show "DV OUT iLINK" message that should appear (as has been mentioned in the Op.Guide) but "DV IN" message is seen. If I play the handycam on the VCR/Edit mode using its controls, this changes to DV OUT. I have also checked the dock - it works fine with Windows XP using the USB.

I have also re-set the Handycam clock & synchronized the two, as closely as is possible, since Apple help says that this problem could arise if the date and time on both don't match. But it isn’t possible to get them to synchronize exactly. To achieve this can one has to reset the Handycam and set the time again? Apple help suggests this should be done by disconnecting the internal lithium battery, but in case of this Handycam model this does not seem to be possible, since the battery is built in. So what should one do?

Is there something that I've missed? If it is, it’s most likely something that has not been mentioned in the Op.Guide. Can someone out there guide me and help me resolve this problem?
