hi all,
I suppose there would be at least a few here that have installed these G5 Drive Brackets. I'm just a bit worried with what I've seen so far...
As per the instructions in the installation guide, I've fitted the 3 hard drives to the bracket prior to installation so I would know how much force would be necessary to use. The instructions make it sound like everything would be a tight fit. Well I've found it to be exactly the opposite!! There is absolutely no force necessary - in fact the drives are just sitting there on the base and wobble with the slightest touch. I'm sure that if I pushed one over far enough they'd all just topple like dominos.
Should that be how it fits together?
Also one of the mounting plates has been cut short - and the hole for one of the screws has been cut into. Anyone come accross something like this before?
I purchased this bracket off eBay... I've sent an email to the G5 Drive Bracket team letting them know my concerns. All the pictures on their site show brackets using clear plastic, do they make brackets with white plastic - because that's what I've got.
Since this bracket isn't a tight fit at all... I have a slight suspicion that maybe someone made this in their garage and has sold it as a genuine G5 Drive Bracket?
Well, do you think I should just use it as it is? With all the movement I'd have to secure the drives. The only thing I can think to do is to put strips of foam between the mounting screws and the hard drives, then use a zip tie to secure them all together. But then they could still just be lifted up out of the base. Shouldn't there be something securing them to the base?
Thanks for any help. I had hoped to get everything installed and going this weekend - but looks like it's going to be a loooong weekend...
