Im on the iPhone 3G with 2.1, I know you can do all sorts of things to get apps for free like SSH or jailbreaking, I just simply don't want to jailbreak my phone.

When i put in a .ipa or .app file iTunes tries to install but says the app cannot be verified.

Is there a simple way to make my .ipa or .app file verified. Maybe there's a file I can add so iTunes would let me install it?

Thanks,,,

You are going to have to jailbreak to get what you want.

Google is you friend;)

First the iphone will never run a .app file.

Second, the reason your .ipa is unverified is because it's someone else's paid for app, not yours. So unless you can provide the credentials that purchased the app it won't go for you.

Third, don't bother typing questions google can answer for you

Fourth, pay for apps.

Fifth, there's plenty of good free apps too.

Okay, wow. This is not a warez forum. It's against the rules to discuss such topics here.

Incorrect.

*.app is actually a folder named *.app ... all of the stock programs on the iPhone are *.apps and the Cydia jailbreak apps are *.app. It is possible to copy cracked pirated *.apps to /Applications/ and they will run.

so how does that work? is each .ipa file attached to a specific account? or is itunes going to apple servers to check if the user had purchased that file?

You can install ipa apps on the 3G. You have to jailbreak it with quickpwn or pwnage than load ssh and an sftp program like cyber duck. You can google the tutorial. You have to modify your mobileinstallation file on the iphone which you do through the ssh.

What a dumb answer.... first off... I'd gladly pay for the app (.ipa) but Apple removed it from the App Store (Netshare).

Anyone know how to convert an .ipa file to the seperate files in the .app folder?

NVM: figured it out. Just rename it to a zip and unzip it :)

what a dumb response. just because something is discontinued doesn't mean you should just get it for free.

Seeing as it is discontinued, how can one pay for it? Id be happy to pay for the the app, however it is unavailable for purchase, at this stage in the game there is only one way to get said app...which I would like to have...but I dont want to jailbreak my iphone...

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

You don't even need Netshare. Just install 3proxy from cydia and mobile terminal, and type in terminal "socks" and you can share your Internet. There is a tutorial on these forums. Just search for it.

PdaNet is all you need. Of course, you will also need to be jailbroken, but that is the case with all of the above.

So much love in this thread! :D

And, yes, you can install .app files. You can also install .ipa files on non-jailbroken phones. You just need the developer to send you an AdHoc copy with the proper provisioning file. (Thus, it's OK with Apple.) :p

who said you have the right to get the app in the first place? get some logic in your head. you obviously DONT pay for it and thus CAN'T buy it. whats so hard to understand about that? if you want to obtain apps illegally then this isn't the place to discuss it.

Then too bad. Can't be done.

Jailbreak your phone or don't tether.

It's that simple.
