My screen is broken on my mbp and so i hooked it up to an external monitor. Unfortunatly when i reboot the compute to start the install process it's not allowing me to swap the screen to the monitor so I can see what I'm selecting. I've tried f7 and ctrl-f2. Any way to get it to change?

Have you tried to power on the MB and, immediately after, close the lid and leave it closed during the installation process?

You have to have your external display plugged in before power on the MB.

Do I need to have something plugged in to a USB port for it to work?

I think you should use an external keyb & mouse to use the installation program.

But, maybe you can try to open the lid when the installation process shows you the language choose dialog.

Hmm not working. Eventually the monitor turns the light blue color but never the cosmic image. Should I close the lid right when i push the power button and hear the internal sound or should i wait until the screen turns on?

Try to close the lid as fast as you can. And leave it closed all the time.
