so I just downloaded the latest intel security update (i dont even remember the nomencalture) and now my revision A 2007 model macbook pro will not reboot.
It stays on the grey screen with the grey pinwheel.
I reset the PRAM, and nothing.
I took the battery out and held down the power button, and nothing.
so i put in Disc 1 of the instal disc, and started the reinstall process, but stopped because I was not sure if this would format the drive and i would lose everything. So i manually shut down the MBP, and now I cannot eject the disc.
and it still stalls on the grey screen of death.
update: pressing C with the install disc 1 in the drive gets me to the install screens, and i was able to get into Disk Utility and conduct a verify and repair, but no repairs were necessary.
so i selected reboot from the drive and nothing. still stalls on the grey screen.
update 2:
was able to get to Disk Utility, Verified the disk, Repaired the disk (no repairs were needed)
went to Start Up Disk, selected the hard drive, restarted, and still she gets stuck on the grey screen.
just got off the phone with mac support. and they recommended target disk mode to grab some of my necessary files. then to conduct a fresh install of the OS X, using archive and install. preserving user settings.
so i guess im off to the store to get a 6 pin to 6 pin.
please help !
