HELP: iPad stuck in recovery mode

I just took a flight and the airport guys threw around my bag and now I get the USB ---->iTunes screen and can't escape it, if I plug it into my macbook, it says that it is in recovery mode and it needs to restore, but I can't lose my data on the iPad, I can't seem to work with Tiny Umbrella what do I do?

Sorry mate. This is a default setting and there is nothing to be done. Plug it in and hope that it restores to your last sync.

If you had enabled USB disk use, you may get some help from a Linux system which may read the pad ok

Had to take it into the apple store, erased everything w/e.
