Help iphone 3g problem

Hey, so I've been doing a lot of research b/c yesterday my 3g got the white screen of death. However, unlike everybody else who has had this problem, I did not drop my iphone. It was working fine one minute and then the literally within 5 minutes the white screen came on. My warranty is up so going to the genius bar is my last resort. I've tried all the resets/tricks people have suggested, yet have had no luck. The screen is completely white but the phone still works. Also occasionally when trying to reset the phone gray lines will appear. My question is, does the fact that i never dropped the phone suggest a different problem other than the lcd/disconnected wire? Please help. Thanks

you need to shut your iphone down.after that you need to put your iphone into dfu mode.then press the home and the lok button at the same time and wait when you see the apple logo.
