Help! iPhone 5S Back has awkward sized cut metal?

That's really the best I can describe the problem (see the attached photo). The thickness of the metal strip below the white glass area under the camera seems abnormally thick/wide on the phone I received.

Have any of you seen this before on 5S or 5? I'm assuming this is not normal but have been trying to push my OCD aside and deal with it (although there seems to be a separate issue with a small space between the front top glass bezel and the top edge plastic as well).



Do any of you have thoughts/suggestions?

When I first found this site a few years ago, people were complaining that they couldn't hear people they were talking to on the phone. The culprit? They didn't take the plastic off the front screen...which was covering the ear piece.
