HELP: iPhone EDGE displays grey box

Hi

on my iPhone over the past few days with whichever SIM i use in it, instead of displaying the EDGE (E) logo it displays a grey box.. im not sure why this is and i cant get onto edge.. i virginized my iPhone and reunlocked it using Ziphone and still same problem...

Any help would be most appreciated.

If there's an E, it means EDGE.

If it's just a box, then it's GPRS.

With GPRS being even slower than EDGE.
