Recently I got the iPhone 3g and it suddenly shut off, even though it had a full battery. It will not turn back on, connect to itunes, or go into recovery or DFU mode. Any ideas?

You obviously either drowned your iPhone or jailbroke it, because the only way this can ever happen is through water damage and bricking.
The latter is the most probable. Sorry but I think your iPhone is bricked.

Software can't brick an iPhone.
Plug it into the wall charger for a few hours then try holding the power and/or home button down. Try DFU mode first.
