I have a 4th Gen. iPod and it's working fine and all, I can put songs in and out, but when I go to the latest iPod Updater, it won't recognize my iPod, and tells me to plug it in to continue.

I didin't really care because I have the latest software, but what if my iPod goes crazy and I can't restore it?!

So I bought an iPod Shuffle for my mom yesturday (for christmas) and iPod updater won't recognize that it's in! It keeps telling me to plug an ipod! !!

Apple care told me to send it because the iPod Shuffle might be defective, but I doubt it since my other ipod won't be recognized either.

Anyone know what's going on and how I can get this to work?! I want to be able to give my mom her present tomorrow, I don't want to have to send it to apple care! :(

What cable are you using? FireWire isn't supported anymore on the new iPods, I wonder if Apple disabled FireWire support on the new updaters?
