Hello, I have been having a problem with my ipod were it can not play any songs, movies/videos or any Youtube videos. I hardly EVER post a problem on a site since most of the problems I find solutions on the internet for but I have tried every possible solution and non have worked. So to re-cap I can not play any songs, what happens when i play songs is that if I press the play button it switches to the pause button like its about to play but then in a second it switches back to the play button and doesn't do anything. Same thing with videos. And YouTube is quite different, It just says "This Movie cannot be Played", and for those wondering I have: Erased All Settings via: General>Reset>Reset Settings
2. Restored iPod without loading any backups of any kind THEN did a Complete erase via: General>Reset>Reset and Erase Ipod
3Also tried to do all that without syncing my iPod with my iTunes

If anyone has any suggestions on what I should do it will be greatly appreciated:):):)

Nope its out of warranty, but if worst comes to worst ill probably just sell it too someone and buy a cheap MP3 player, I am really only interested in the music part, apps are now boring to me, had a ipod for years and they just are not fun anymore.

I'm having a similar problem. I was given a "dead" 2nd Gen. Turns out the digitizer ribbon cable was torn. I replaced the digitizer, connected the device to my laptop and set the device up as a "new device". iTunes wanted to upgrade to iOS 4.2.1, so being the trusting soul that I am I let iTunes do its thing.

After the device rebooted iTunes did a synch. I also have an iPod 5th generation Video, so iTunes synched my music to the Touch. That's when the fun started.

The Touch works fine except it refuses to play any thing that has audio. There are no keyboard clicks, notification sounds, no music, videos and podcasts won't play. I tried connecting the device to an after market "dock", but all I get is what sounds like static. I've considered using a Bluetooh headset, but I don't want to waste the money....

I have a suspicion that iOS 4.2.1 is the cause. I've read some disturbing posts about this version "breaking" 2nd gen Touch devices, and so far Apple is being very silent on the issue. In fact, I've mentioned my concerns on the Apple support forums, and my posts have been deleted for violation of the user agreement.

Another fly in the ointment is I can't "downgrade" to a 3.x version because Apple is no longer "signing" earlier versions, and as an iPod rookie I was not aware of the necessity to save the SHSH blobs before I upgraded to iOS 4.2.1.

So what I want to know is, how many 2nd gen Touch users are having issues with iOS 4.x?

Thanks.

The digitzer ribbon cable was broken ... How do you think such a thing happens :p. One: someone tried to open his iPod and broke the cable in the process Two: the ipod hited the ground so hard the glass sprung out an tor the cable in two (it's a rather fragile cable).

Nevertheless, it's weird it still works (without sound).

If this is the same issue, it would be hell of a coincidence (don't know which gen the OP has).

I don't think the thing was opened. The original owner was a 10 year old boy, and when I took the digitizer out it cracked. Dropped is more likely, and there may have been some water damage... The tattle-tale was pink. I do know there was a good deal of pocket lint and sand in the thing....

Still, I think 4.2.1 is to blame for the simple fact that Apple has ignored my e-mails and the Apple Support Forum mods are playing Gestapo with my posts on the subject.... There's some thing rotten in Denmark......
