HELP! iTunes freezes everytime I plug my iPhone 3GS in!!

i almost restored my iphone but it said 'error -1' however i was still able to configure the start up settings but as soon as it said 'connect to itunes' and i opened itunes, itunes froze. but when itunes starts working again, my phone just crashes and restarts. and im trying to restore from itunes backup but i cant since itunes crashes and so does my phone! :mad: i have tried all i can! HELP PLEASE.
