Here's the big part of the story - I got the iPhone 4 running ios5 but I don't yet have a sim so I jailbroke it before I set it up (since I couldn't set it up using iTunes it kept asking for a sim card). Everything seemed to work fine, but then iTunes was unable to detect the phone every time I plugged it in. The phone is still working, and I tried dfu mode, restoring, reinstalling, everything, but it didn't work. I am currently using the erase all contents and settings option and it's been sitting there with a spinning loader around for about 20 minutes now. Even once I get my sim card I could probably still use it, but in this case I have no way of restoring my iPhone or syncing apps/music to it.
