I've had an ipod photo since they came out and unortunately had to set it up on a pc, but it would always work fine on both the pc and mac. Today when itunes opens a i get a message that says "itunes cannot read the contents of the ipod. use the ipod software updater application to restore the ipod to factory settings." I updated the ipod on my pc about a week ago and it still worked fine on both pc and mac, but today i've tried it on numerous macs and i get the same message. I'm afraid that if i restore it to factory settings i'll lose all my music. Any suggestions?

The disk may be corrupted. Try attaching it to the mac and see if Disk Utility sees it. Make sure the Mac is up to date via software update.

If that does not work, you will have to restore the iPod if you can. yes, the music will be lost, but you have it in iTunes?
