I have a new mac and want to get a camcorder to use with.
Purposes- making videos for DVDs of theatrical performances and for documentation and amateur film making.
I liked the Panasonic PVGS 400 because it had 3 chips and great manual controls. the new version pvgs 500 dropped the manual controls and has no headphone jack.
I am looking for a camera in the $1000 price range that will have excellent picture and sound quality, manual controls for focus and iris and a head phone jack.
Also important that the internal mic does not pick up the sound of the camera running.
I've head that High Def in the Prosumer level does not have software at the time that is easy to work with.
I was also thinking that there are devices now that can use a firewire to go from the digital camera to a hard drive so that the camera does not the compress the video information on the Mini DV tape.
Any thoughts on what would be the best camera for a person like me?
