I lost my iPhone and used find my iPhone to erased it but I dint mark it as lost first; would that cause the activation lock to have never turned on? I’m freaking out a little! Also when I get the new phone and restore from back up on iCloud and add the Apple Pay cards back; does it gets back on the lost phone too.? I’m concerned especially with the Apple Card.

As for Apple Pay, I do not think that it would go back on your lost phone if it was erased. I can't speak for activation lock.

Also if you go to Wallet & Apple Pay on your settings and tap on your Apple Card > Card Information, you can request a new card number if you suspect if you believe your card is compromised. This will completely change your card number and PIN number as well.

A remotely erased iPhone is now useless to anyone who finds it. There’s no data on it anymore.

These are Apple’s recommendations for lost iPhone:

Activation Lock doesn't happen if you don't have an Apple ID on the iPhone and you wouldn't have been able to use Find My to erase the phone if you didn't have your Apple ID on it.

As to a restore, those things in your backup are restored only to the device you are restoring them to - not to any other device.

So, if someone finds your iPhone they will encounter a wiped phone with Activation Lock.

This is why Apple wants you to turn off Find My when they work on your device.

Yes. Anyone who gets a hold of it will be faced with the Hello screen. Once they start to try and make the device theirs they will be asked to provide YOUR Apple ID and password.

Since they don't have that…activation lock.

Let's assume for the moment however, that they did get in to your phone. You erased it. All your data is gone off that phone. They have nothing to steal.
