HELP!!!!Mac Mail not working in Mavericks

Yesterday I upgraded to Mavericks. Everything is working fine except the mail program. I can send but I can't receive. I've spent hours on research to find an answer but I can't find anything. Please help me someone!!!

what does connection doctor show?

Is the SSL option box unchecked? If it isn't, try unchecking it, save, and then see what happens.

Thanks for the responses! I'm sorry but I'm a newbie and I don't know where to find the connection doctor or the SSL option. New to Macs so if you could tell me where to find them I will check it out.

Use that as a reference to troubleshoot

for connection doctor

from the menu bar on the top Window > Connection Doctor
