Help! Mac newbie needs to record 90 min voice mp3

I am new to Mac. What is best software to use to record a 90 min. voice recording to mp3? I have used Garage Band and then export to ITunes but the recording stopped at around 34 minutes and I lost everything else.

Are there settings that I can change?

Also, any other software that is easier? I need one that i just plug my mic and record directly to mp3.

What about if I was to make short recordings? Like 2 minutes? I want to record sample phone calls. The quality can be very low. I am looking for something that is convenient and 1 step. (without having to export, convert, etc). Would you still recommend Audacity or Quicktime?

I want an application that I can record easily to mp3 and send out the file without having to go through conversion, etc.

Reduce the beats per minute as low as you can go to get the longest recording time in GarageBand. Even with a voice recording it still counts away.
 
thanks for advice on Audio Recorder. I downloaded a LAME but didn't seem to work. Do you have any tips or know of one that works?

I wish you best of luck w quitting smoking. I commend you for it! It's not easy but the best thing you can do! Good luck!

I don't use LAME, Maybe I should, I have that in my iTunes Scripts...but I don't really use it...

And thanks for the kind words about quitting, it's tough, but soo worth it.
