Help: Macbook Or Macbook Pro

Anxious to make the purchase, but need some help. I can purchase the macbook (black) for $1,400 with student discount, or the base macbook pro for $1,800. Any advice please.
Seems for the extra $400 I would get a larger screen, more video (I think) & better graphics. Is this correct, and is the extra $400 worth it.
