So today I installed a piece of software called Autograph that my school makes availalbe to its students online. The program repeatedly quit whenever I tried to launch it, so I restarted my computer. It came to the login screen, and I put in my password, and the screen went that blue/gray like it was logging in, but then went straight back to the login screen. Every time it gets caught in this loop, even though I know I'm putting my password in correctly.
I've tried zapping the pram, repairing disk permissions, and starting up in single user mode and using the fsck command, but nothing seems to work. When I start up in safe mode, I still can't log in. I don't have a bootable disc for Lion, and trying to download and reinstall it in the online repair mode doesn't work as I'm currently living in Germany and can't use my Apple ID outside of the US. If anyone has any suggestions or solutions, they would be much appreciated. This really confuses me, as I downloaded this software from a trusted source, so I don't know why it should be causing problems, if it is to blame at all.
*UPDATE*
To be clear, the program was Autographer 3.3 Student edition, which isn't compatible with Lion (I was unaware of that when downloading and installing it). I've also tried putting the computer back in its factory settings (creating a fresh account) in single user mode, but still had the same login problem. Currently I'm re-installing Lion from a bootable thumb drive my school's IT department had. However, I'm still curious as to what the bug was, and if there were any alternate solutions (besides backing up my data, wiping the computer, and starting completely fresh). If anyone has any ideas or thoughts, I'd like to know! Thanks!
