I don't usually sign up to forums to ask these things because I typically find the answer through a lot of reading through here and there but I can't seem to figure this one out - so if you could help me out - I'd be greatly appreciated!
I recently received two Samsung SSD 850EVO - (500GB + 250GB) for a striped RAID setup. 500GB in the main, and 250GB in the optical port with a data doubler. Clearly I didn't do my homework since I thought I would have a striped config with 750GB. Anyways, I went through the process and noticed I only could get 500GB. Okay sure - did it anyways. Didn't think that one through either. I need the whole 750GB for future uses (I work with RAW photo files & videos). I also noticed my internet was EXTREMELY slow afterwards - so I thought it was because of the config.
So after a bit of research, I knew I had to reset and delete the RAID setup, so I went on to do so by taking out the 250GB (Optical), and reset/ereased the partitions to start again with a RAID1 (Mirrored) config to have a total of 750GB.
But now when I try to do so, dragging in my 500GB for RAID1 setup, it says the RAID Set Estimated Size is Zero KB.
Dragging in my 250GB SSD, it displays 250GB as it should.
Where has the 500GB gone? I read through some forums here and there to find that I need to delete the Apple Raid Array on this one? Not sure how to do that. I'm not sure how to do anything at all now.
All I desire is a mirrored RAID setup with a total of 750GB. I just noticed if I try to RAID0 (Striped) again, I get a total of 500GB like before.
Am I missing something here or am I just misinformed on how this works? I'm also finding some stuff on enabling TRIM? I'll read more into this but if this could also be addressed...
The more detail you can provide, the more I would be ever greatful. I'll even send you a coffee
I apologize if this thread might be in the wrong section.
Thanks!
