I got home from work today and found that my Powermac (Dual 2.0) is having major issues.

* Hard Drive used space has grown from 40ish gig to 106 gig
* Home folder has grown to around 89 gig (should be 26 gig or so at most)
* kernel_task is using 1.07 gig of Virtual Ram
* Total for system Virtual Ram is 10.48 gig

Any ideas??? All kinds of wacky stuff happening...and no I don't have the "virus"

Any help would be wonderful, I am running 10.4.5 on a Powermac G5 Dual 2.0 with 1.5 gig of RAM

Thanks

Yes...I rebooted...repaired permissions and then rebooted again.

In regards to the used disk space problem, perhaps give WhatSize a shot, it gives disk space totals for all folders and items on your hard disk so it should at least help you narrow down which folder and items are giving you the problem without having to manually search around.

Do a Find for large files - maybe you may have a log that's spiraling out of control?
Then use Console to have a look at it to see if it contains any clues..

[ed] waay too slow typing, again [/]

OK I ran ONYX and I am back down to 40 gig on the Hard Drive.

My question is the Virtual Memory still supposed to be so high??

Thanks for all the suggestions

The other things are abnormal but kernel_task is normal... mine is using 1,06 gig as well. Like some of the previous posters suggested my guess is that some kind of log file is receiving lots of errors.... Check console.log or use the whatsize program.

What is your system total for Virtual Ram??

I guess you mean total vm size... 7.51 gig.

I guess I am all set then....everything appears to be back to normal...not quite sure what caused all this but at least I am upo and running.

Thanks to all of you
