I recently had to fix my sister's Windows laptop by booting from a Ubuntu Live CD, so I decided that it would be nice to put a Linux Rescue partition on my USB drive that's always on my keychain. I've been searching Google for a while now and haven't found answers to these 2 main questions:
1) Is it possible to make a universal Linux USB drive that will boot on any Mac or PC that supports USB booting? (Preferably without having to install rEFIt on the Mac beforehand. I've seen someone say that they installed rEFIt to the USB drive and could boot on any Mac, but then I don't know if it would boot on a PC.)
2) Is it possible to use the rest of the USB's capacity to store whatever I want? i.e. I'd like to use ~1GB for the Linux Rescue partition, and then the other ~7GB as a FAT32 partition that could be read by any Mac or PC to store/transfer files.
If anyone thinks I could get more help in another section of the forum, or another forum altogether, I would appreciate the suggestion. Thanks!
