Any thoughts on a Macbook Air 13 with 1.8 C2D and 4GB (and the 128SSD?) versus the newly released MBP 13 2.3 i5 4GB 320 HDD?
I do no video editing, conversion, or handbrake. So do i really need the i5 processor?
On the other hand, I have no idea what to expect with OS 10.7 and some reports here are saying it hogs 2GB RAM. Will I have the full, snappy experience with the MBAir and 10.7?
My uses are: Safari, Mail, iPhoto, iTunes, Office 11, Parallels (running XP).
I want NO beachballs and the hard drive seems to be the biggest cause of beachballs (rather than the processor) with the way I use the Macbook.
The other option is to get a MBP and install a hybrid SSD/HDD. Is this worthwhile for my needs, or could it be a problem for 10.7 and is the SSD on a MBP slower than the MBA?
PROS of MBA
Superfast due to SSD
long battery
better screen resolution
CONS of MBA:
1) i5 version coming?
2) small SSD space - how do we manage 50GB of photos? Will iPhoto on an external drive be as "slow" as a nonSSD macbook?
3) Is the processor outdated as C2D is dead?
Thanks!
