Help! MBP slow loading icons.

I have one the the new 15" MBP

Hard Drive: 250GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 2 GB



When I open a folder the files inside it take anywhere from 5-20 seconds for it to show that there is any thing in it.

Is this normal? Or anyone tips on how to fix this?
