Help! MBP Stuck - Force shutdown won't work

My MBP is just stuck. Cannot do anything but move mouse. Held power button and all I hear is a click but the computer won't force shut down... How do I restart? I need to do some important work that is time sensitive!

Hold the power button down for at least 10-15 seconds, regardless of what you hear.

Okay that worked but in previous times I have never had to hold it this long. Just booted it in safe mode and its extra slow... Going to do a full normal restart.
