Here's my configuration, and please realize I'm only a moderately tech savvy 50+ year old.....

2014 Mac mini, i5 2.6 Ghz, 8 gig Ram, 1 TB spinner, w/ 256 gig Samsung SSD USB 3 connected Boot Drive ....

I managed through the benefit of YouTube to add the Samsung SSD shortly after I purchased the mini less than a year ago using Carbon Copy Cloner...

I've been holding off on upgrading to High Sierra as I read some early posts that people had trouble with a set up similar to mine.

Are we passed potential problems, or is there a special approach I could use when doing the update to eliminate problems in adding the operating system onto the boot drive vs the spinner?

Thanks for any light those more expert than a novice like me might be able to shed on my configuration.

You didn't tell us which OS you're using NOW.

If it's Low Sierra (or even El Capitan), I don't see any overwhelming benefit to be had by upgrading to High Sierra.

If you decide to give it a try, here's two of the most important tips you're going to get:
TIP 1:
Create a cloned backup of your existing OS installation BEFORE you upgrade.
Use either CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper. Both are FREE to download and use for 30 days.

IF you have a bootable cloned backup of your old install, and IF you have trouble with the new install, it's super-easy to "get back to where you once belonged" by just booting from the clone, erasing the new install, and then "re-cloning" your backup BACK TO it.

If you don't do this, and find yourself unhappy, you are going to become even MORE unhappy trying to "get back".

TIP 2:
Use the free "Boot Buddy" app:

... to create a bootable USB flash drive installer.
Then... boot from the flashdrive and install that way.
Goes much easier for some folks.
